The HRESC curriculum content is designed so that it can be adapted and incorporated within existing lesson plans for a variety of high school subjects. Beyond the human rights content, students are asked to engage in critical thinking, become informed about current events, and explore the real-life implications of many of the concepts or policies they are learning about in class. Some topics for class discussion include:
-General Human Rights background
-The Holocaust
-The Universal Declaration of Human Rights
-Poverty and the Millenium Development Goals
-Women’s Rights
-The Death Penalty
-Activism
Program staff and facilitators work closely with teachers to coordinate curriculum, assignments, and activities. Facilitators are also encouraged to develop their own lessons based on their interests, and the program staff actively works to support their endeavors.
